Miniature cypress trees are popular bonsai plantings. You don't need to be a bonsai master with tiny tools, though, to be successful with a potted miniature cypress. Like its much larger brethren, miniature cypress trees are easy to grow. Give them sufficient sunlight, warmth and water and the little tree thrives indoors.
Things You'll Need
Fertilizer
Pruning shears
Place the potted cypress tree in an area of the home where it can receive sunshine in the morning and shade in the afternoon.
Water your miniature cypress tree when it is dry within 1 inch of the surface of the soil. To check the moisture content of the soil, stick your finger into it to a depth of 1 inch. If it comes out dry, it is time to water.
Fertilize the mini cypress weekly in the spring with a 10-10-10 formula, applied to moist soil. Fertilize every two weeks during the summer and don't fertilize at all during fall and winter. Use the rate suggested on the label and water again after applying fertilizer.
Prune the indoor cypress tree only if necessary to remove diseased or dead branches. Cut these back to their points of origin.
