If you have tunnels in your yard, then you probably have moles. These little animals dig under the ground looking for food such as grubs. They do not harm your plants intentionally but can damage your grass and vegetation in the process of making tunnels or getting to their food. If you don't want to harm the mole, there is a simple way to trap it so that you can set it free somewhere else.
Things You'll Need
Large coffee can with lid
Hand trowel
Board
Locate a tunnel that is being used by a mole. Use a hand trowel and make a small hole in the tunnels that you see in your yard.
Wait a few days. The mole will repair the tunnels that are being used. You will see fresh dirt plugging the holes.
Dig a section out of a tunnel. Use a hand trowel so that you can dig carefully and not damage too much of the tunnel.
Dig a hole below the tunnel section you removed. Insert a large empty coffee can with the top removed into the hole. Set it deep enough so that the open top of the can will be flush with the bottom of the tunnel. When the mole passes through the tunnel, it will fall into the can.
Lay a board on top of the tunnel to block the opening and make the tunnel dark again.
Check the tunnel section several times a day to see if the mole has fallen into the can.
Put a lid on the can and take the mole to a location far away from your home to let it loose.
Tips & Warnings
Check your live trap often to prevent the trapped mole from dying from starvation or thirst.
