White mold on cucumber plants is usually caused by powdery mildew or a white mold called sclerotinia. Both must be eliminated from cucumber plants to keep the plant healthy and to prevent the spread of the fungus. You should treat plants as soon as you become aware of the fungus--delaying treatment may allow spores to spread throughout your garden and affect other plants.
Things You'll Need
Garbage bags
Baking soda
Horticultural oil
Insecticidal soap
Garden sprayer
Remove all plants that are completely covered with the mildew or mold and appear to be dying. Place these in garbage bags for disposal. In addition remove debris around the plants that might harbor some fungus spores, including mulches. You can apply fresh mulch to the area once you've controlled the mold problem on the plants.
Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda, 1 tbsp. of horticultural oil (look for these at garden stores) and 1 tbsp. of insecticidal soap (use the latter if you suspect insect problems as well as mold) in a garden sprayer, as suggested by HGTV (ref. 3). Add 1 gallon of water to the sprayer and shake it to mix.
Spray all mold-affected plants with the mixture. Do this in the morning while it is still cool and the sun is not yet beating down on the plants. Cover the plants completely with the spray, including the undersides of leaves.
Spray plants again with this mixture in seven days. Plants may require several applications for mold to be entirely eliminated.
Tips & Warnings
Keep the garden area clear of debris that might trap moisture and promote fungus.
