Craftsman lawn tractor decks are washed by running water through the deck washout port. Using the deck wash system removes built-up grass and debris from the mower deck. Craftsman recommends washing the deck after each time the lawn tractor is used to mow grass. Using the deck wash system instead of spraying off the mower deck with a power washer or garden hose protects the engine by keeping water away from sensitive components.
Things You'll Need
Garden hose
Washout port nozzle adapter
Park the tractor on a level area in the lawn, near a faucet to attach the garden hose.
Set the parking brake. Turn the engine off.
Thread the nozzle adapter that came with the tractor onto the end of the garden hose. Pull the lock collar back and push the adapter onto the deck washout port on the left end of the lawn tractor deck. Release the collar to lock the adapter in place. Tug on the hose to make sure the connection is secure.
Turn the water on. Start the tractor engine. Place the throttle lever into the "Fast" position.
Move the clutch control to the "Engaged" position. Allow the water to run through the deck until the water comes out clean.
Move the clutch control to the "Disengaged" position. Turn the engine off. Turn the water off.
Pull back on the collar of the nozzle adapter and remove it from the nozzle washout port.
Move the tractor to a dry area. Place the clutch control in the "Engaged" position to allow excess water to be removed. Wait for the tractor deck to dry before putting the tractor away.
