The baby bamboo plant may be used as an edging plant, an indoor houseplant or as a filler in a combination container garden. When planted outdoors, it is a perennial when winter weather stays above 18 degrees Fahrenheit, and can be grown as an annual otherwise. Baby bamboo grows like a bush, forms clumps that spread quickly, and produces dense foliage.
Things You'll Need
Plant clippers
Large planting pot
Potting soil
Plant the baby bamboo in full sun to partial shade. Make sure there is room for the baby bamboo to spread. Indoors, plant it in a large pot and place it in a sunny area of your home.
Water well to keep the soil wet at all times. The baby bamboo plant will do well in boggy areas or in a water feature.
Divide the root system during the spring to late summer to propagate baby bamboo and to give plants more room.
Trim the baby bamboo down to the ground when the foliage turns brown in the fall or winter.
Tips & Warnings
If you're growing your baby bamboo in a pot indoors, trim the plant back yearly to promote a dense growth habit rather than cutting it down to the ground.
