Planting your garden with corn can be a long and arduous process without the proper tools. Tractors and commercial corn planters are the quickest methods of planting, but a homemade corn planter offers a much cheaper option. You can create a simple corn planter that prevents you from bending over every time you want to plant a new seed. With this planter, you can hold a handful of corn seeds in one hand while digging divots and planting seeds with the other.
Things You'll Need
1-inch PVC pipe
Marker
Hacksaw
Scissors
2-liter plastic bottle
Duct tape
Construction
Stand a length of 1-inch PVC pipe on the ground in front of you.
Measure from the ground up to chest height on the PVC pipe and make a black line with a marker.
Cut the PVC pipe at the black marker line using a hacksaw.
Cut off one end of the PVC pipe at a 45-degree angle.
Cut the top 3 inches off of a plastic 2-liter bottle.
Place the pouring end of the plastic 2-liter bottle on top of the straight end of the PVC pipe.
Tape the homemade 2-liter bottle funnel securely to the straight end of the PVC pipe using a generous amount of duct tape.
Use
Place the angled tip of the corn planter into the soil in front of you and press against the pointed portion of the PVC pipe with your foot to create a small divot in the ground.
Drop a few seeds into the plastic bottle funnel and allow them to fall down the PVC pipe into the hole you created.
Pull the corn seed planter away from the hole where the seeds were deposited.
Cover the hole with soil from the edge of the divot using your feet.
