A Husqvarna lawn mower will cut grass quickly. However, after a few years, it may need a few repairs. Blades will break and the spark plug will clog. Having a technician repair a lawn mower can be very pricey. For a savvy consumer, however, repairing your lawn mower at home is easily doable. The only costs you will have will be the parts, which range from only a few dollars for a spark plug to $60 for replacement blades.
Things You'll Need
New spark plug
New air filter
5/8-inch wrench
New mower blades
Car jack
Flat-head screwdriver
New mower tire
Replace the spark plug. Open the mower's hood. Locate the black hose running alongside the motor. The plug will be where the hose meets the motor. Pull the hose off the plug and slide the plug out of the motor. Slide a new one into position and replace the hose.
Unlock the plastic lid on top of the motor by unscrewing the lid's screws with your hand. Under the lid is the air filter. Pull it out. Slide a new filter into place and re-screw the lid back into position.
Adjust the deck to its highest cutting position by maneuvering the cutting handle to its highest position. Grab a 5/8-inch wrench and go under the mower deck. Look for the bolt that is holding in the mower blade by its center. Unscrew it and slide the blade off the arbor. Slide a new blade onto the arbor and tighten the bolt over the blade. Depending on your mower, there might be two blades. In this case, both blades would be replaced the same way.
Jack the mower up with a car jack if there is a flat tire that needs replaced. Unscrew the bolt in the center of the wheel with a 5/8-inch wrench. Slide the tire off the axle. Pry the tire off the wheel with a flat-head screwdriver. Fit the new tire over the wheel and place it on the axle. Fasten the bolt back onto the axle and lower the jack.
Tips & Warnings
Different lawn mowers require different blades, spark plugs and other parts. Read your owner's manual to find the right part to fit your mower.
Avoid injury by wearing safety gloves and goggles.
