The tractor rim is the part of the wheel that the tire mount to. The rim is the outer part of the wheel. Rims have flat surfaces with a lip, or flange, to better retain the tire bead, or the edge of the tire that presses against the rim, so that the tire doesn't slip off the wheel. A tractor rim can be damaged from weathering, rust, or hitting a large object, such as a rock, in a field. Tractor rims have standardized heights and widths based on the type of tire used. To find the rim size for your tractor, you can either use a tape measure or look on the tire itself.
Things You'll Need
Tape measure
Using a Tape Measure
Place your tape measure at the bottom of the rim to measure the diameter of the rim.
Hold the tape measure teeth to the base of the rim channels, which cup the tire to the rim.
Extend the tape measure to the opposite rim seat, measuring the diameter of the rim. Note the length.
Measure the width of the rim seat by placing the tape measure teeth on one end of the rim seat and extending the tape measure to the opposite end where the rim channel begins. Note the length.
Using the Tire
Look on the tractor tire for two sets of numbers.
Note the first and second numbers. The first number is the rim width; the second is the rim diameter, both in inches. For example, if your tire lists 5.00-15 inches, the rim is 5 inches wide with a diameter of 15 inches.
Examine the tire again. If your tire lists three numbers, the first number is the rim diameter, the second is the width, and the third is the size. For example, for a tire that lists 26/12.00-12 inches, the rim is 26 inches long, 12 inches wide and has a size of 12.
