A Nash choker loop mole trap is a highly effective and practical way to eliminate moles from a lawn or garden. If a choker loop mole trap is improperly set, however, moles will detect the trap and move to another area of the lawn or garden. Properly setting the mole trap is essential in order for the trap to be effective without causing additional damage to the lawn or garden area.
Things You'll Need
Spade shovel
Garden trowel
Garden gloves
Dig a hole across the mole's tunnel. With a spade shovel, dig a hole 1/2 inch deeper than the tunnel and the same width as the mole trap. Use the spade for the initial hole, and then use a garden trowel to complete the hole.
Set the trap in the tunnel with the loop in the mole's runway. The loop of the trap should be around the open end of the mole's runway.
Dampen the loose soil around the trap. All debris and small stones must be removed from the soil.
Fill around the trap with the dampened soil. When doing this, firmly pack the soil under the trigger pan.
Fill the hole around the trap with loose soil. This includes covering the trap with loose soil. The soil should be level with the trigger pan, and no light should be able to get into the hole.
Tips & Warnings
If the trap fails to produce a mole within two days, move the trap to another location.
Set the trigger so it will spring easily.
Keep all traps out of reach of children and pets when not in use.
Keep children and pets out of the area where traps are set.
