When you are rebuilding your Murray push mower or if the throttle linkage is damaged, then you will need to properly reinstall the throttle linkage so you can adjust your mower's RPMs from the throttle lever at the top of the handle bar. The throttle linkage on a Murray push mower is a small wire housed within a steel casing that moves several inches when you adjust the throttle lever from the bunny to the turtle symbol.
Things You'll Need
Flathead screwdriver
Adjust the throttle to the kill area which is below the turtle symbol on the throttle lever on your Murray lawn mower handle bar.
Follow the throttle cord from the throttle lever on the handle bar to the side of the Murray engine. The end of the throttle linkage will have a small bent rod attached to the end of the firm wire where the cord meets the engine.
Loosen the plastic holder (a small white square) on the side of the carburetor butterfly valve lever with the screwdriver.
Slide the end of the throttle linkage wire behind the holder. Tighten the screw back down.
Adjust the throttle lever up and down on the handlebar to ensure the end of the throttle linkage moves the carburetor butterfly lever back and forth--this is what adjusts the gas flow and therefore the speed of your Murray engine.
