A tick is a small arachnid that has the ability to transmit diseases to its animal or human host. The tick sinks its mouth parts in to the host and begins to draw blood out. During this process, the tick can transfer diseases such as Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever. It is important to get the tick out as soon as you notice it. One method involves using peanut butter.
Things You'll Need
1 tsp. peanut butter
Tweezers
Alcohol
Cotton ball
Medicine cup
Rub the peanut butter over the tick and wait five minutes. This will suffocate the tick so that you can get all of the mouth parts out with the tick.
Rinse the peanut butter off and set your tweezers near the base of the skin. Grab hold of the tick with the tweezers.
Pull upward swiftly, but do not jerk or twist the tick as you pull. This will get the entire tick out.
Pour alcohol in a medicine cup and set the tick in it. If the tick is not dead yet, it will be after it sits in the alcohol for a few minutes.
Pour some alcohol on a cotton ball and use it to wipe your skin where the tick bit you.
Tips & Warnings
If you don't get the entire tick out at once, consult a physician. They will be able to get the rest of the tick out for you. It is best to do this within 48 hours of being bitten.
Do not burn any ticks that are still attached to your skin. This could agitate the tick as well as burn your skin.
