The zeezee is one of the best low-maintenance plants you can grow. This interesting plant with a tropical appearance is ideal for beginners or for busy people who may mean well but sometimes neglect their houseplants. Zeezee (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) will grow in nearly any soil, requires a minimal amount of water, and will thrive in moderate sunlight.
Put the zeezee plant near a sunny window, if possible. Although it will do surprisingly well in low-light conditions, it will grow best in moderate, indirect light.
Water the zeezee plant sparingly with warm water. Let the soil dry out between waterings and then water until the soil is only slightly moist. Never allow the bottom of the pot to sit in water. It won't hurt the zeezee plant to be dry for a few days, but too much water will kill it.
Feed the zeezee plant every spring, using a water-soluble houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Fertilizer is optional with the zeezee plant, so forgetting it won't be a problem. The plant will still grow, just not quite as fast.
Tips & Warnings
If you want to start a new zeezee plant or share with friends and family, zeezee plants are easily grown from stem cuttings. Just cut off a leaf and stick it in a small pot filled with potting soil and a small amount of perlite. Mist the soil, and put the pot in a sealed plastic bag. Put it in indirect light until it roots, then remove it from the bag.
The zeezee plant is toxic and should be kept out of the reach of pets and children.
