Mice are scavenging rodents that can wreak havoc on a household if not controlled. However, if you have small pets or small children, using chemicals such as Decon simply is not not an option. Because of the danger presented to the children and other pets by the chemicals, it is a much better option to use natural remedies to attempt to get rid of mice first.
Things You'll Need
Peppermint oil
Steel wool
Used kitty litter
Snake scat
Mousetraps
Spread peppermint oil around the perimeter of your house. The oil is very aromatic and too intense for the sensitive noses of mice. This will ward off any further infestation of your household.
Locate all of their holes in the general vicinity of your house, and stuff them full of steel wool. The mice cannot travel this way, and the steel wool is too tough for them to chew through.
Spread cat litter around the outside of your home so that mice will smell the urine and think there are lots of cats around the area. This can also be enough to ward them off.
Spread snake scat around your garden (can be obtained from a local reptile house or zoo) to further scare the mice off.
Bait some of the mousetraps with peanut butter, and set them in areas of infestation. The peanut butter is very aromatic and will lure the mice in. Set several traps, and continue setting them each night until you have not caught any mice in a week's time.
Tips & Warnings
Be extremely careful when handling mice, live or dead, as they can be carriers of multiple diseases.
