Gloves, protective eyewear, boots
Watch the weather and make sure that you will apply the granular weed killer at least two days before any chance of rain. It is important that the granules have a chance to sit on the grass without being wet for at least 2 days. Apply the weed killer in the spring before the weeds start growing.
Pour the weed killer into the lawn spreader. Adjust the lawn-spreader setting so the granules will be distributed according to the application rate shown on the particular bag of granular weed killer you have purchased (these rates vary by product).
Walk the spreader around the yard to apply evenly, making sure not to overlap applications as you work your way back and forth across the grass.
Use weed and feed on the lawn about four weeks after the application.
Tips & Warnings
If you need to plant new grass seed, wait six weeks after your last weed killer application and then use a fertilizer to revive the soil.
Never use a lawn spreader that does not have a control for how much product is applied per square foot.
Wear protective eyewear, gloves and boots during application, and wash your hands and clothes thoroughly afterward.
Keep children and pets off the treated area for 48 hours after application of most granular weed killer products.
