White grubs eat grass roots and turn beautiful lawns into weed patches with brown, dead grass. If your lawn is infected, you need a product that will kill the grubs and eggs as well as prevent future infestation. Learn how to apply grub control with Merit to make sure that next year, your lawn is healthy and free of white grubs. Timing is critical when applying Merit to kill white grubs.
Things You'll Need
Merit granular
Lawn spreader
Rake
Buy the Merit granular for use in late July to early August. The first application is best in July, followed by a dose in October and again in the spring during the first part of May. This would ensure that you have killed the adults and young as well as the beetles laying the eggs.
Rake the leaves and other debris from the lawn before you apply any treatments. The Merit granules need to reach the soil top to begin killing the white grubs.
Fill the lawn spreader with the product. Set the lawn spreader to "1" for optimal performance.
Walk the entire lawn spreading the Merit granules. Do not miss any areas of the lawn. Overextend your yard by a few feet so that the soil around your yard acts as a barrier preventing the grubs from migrating to your neighbors' yards.
Lightly water the grass after the application unless you are expecting rain that day.
