How to Plant Hosta Seeds
Fill a plastic container with moist potting soil and plant a handful of seeds scattered around the container about 1/2 inch deep. Place the plastic container on a window sill or someplace inside where it can receive warm sunshine.
Maintain the potting soil at a moist consistency (not soaked), while the seeds are germinating. This process usually takes two weeks or so.
Mist the leaves with a spray bottle mister once the leaves pop through the potting soil. When the seeds start to grow two or three leaves each, begin weeding out the poorly developed plants from the healthy ones.
Repot the heathy plants into individual pots with moist potting soil and continue watering by using the misting process. Allow the plants to grow until they are 4 to 6 inches high.
Replant the healthy plants outdoors in loose soil that drains well when watered. Keep the soil moist but not saturated.
Tips & Warnings
When growing hosta plants from seeds, early spring is a good time to plant the seeds inside.
