A vase full of beautiful flowers is a great way to add cheer to any room in your home. Nothing beats the real thing, but if you don't have a green thumb, there is an alternative. Paper flowers can easily be mistaken for the real thing, if you know how to make them. You can even scent them by giving them a spritz of your favorite flower fragrance! Paper flowers are a relatively inexpensive substitution for real flowers and can be made in a day with very few materials. The following steps will show you how to make handmade flowers out of tissue paper.
Things You'll Need
Tissue paper
Floral wire
Floral tape
Scissors
Cotton ball
Decide what type of flowers you would like to make. For this example, we will use a daisy, but for future flowers you can design them anyway you like.
Decide what color you would like your flowers to be. This will determine what color tissue paper you will use. For our daisy we will use three sheets of white tissue paper.
Layer the sheets and cut out several circles, about five inches in diameter
Fold the layered circles in half, and then in half again.
Cut your petal shapes along the edge just as you would with paper dolls, and remember not to cut over the fold!
Unfold your tissue paper circles, and put them aside for later. Upon opening, they should take on the shape of a daisy flower.
Cut your wire to the desired length for your flower's stem. This should be determined by the size of your vase, planter or bouquet.
Form a small loop at the top of your wire.
Cover a small cotton ball with a piece of tissue paper and set it in the loop. This will be the center of your flower.
Slide your cut petal circles up the stem, arrange and secure with glue.
Wrap your stems with floral tape, and viola! You have a finished paper flower!
Tips & Warnings
Remember not to get your flowers wet; tissue paper is not strong enough to hold up to the weight of water!
