How to Jump Start a Riding Lawn Mower. The best thing about having a riding lawn mower is that cutting the grass isn't the same type of heart attack harbinger that it used to be. The worst part of having a riding lawn mower is that they are getting as complicated as automobiles. Luckily, jump starting the battery in a riding lawn mower isn't the hardest thing in the world.
Turn your key on and attempt to start your riding lawn mower. If the engine doesn't turn over, check the connections to the battery. If the connections are clean and tight, odds are your battery is dead.
Drive your automobile over to your riding lawn mower. Turn your car off because the amperage of your car might be too much for some older mowers. Just try it with the car not running. Make sure that you attach red to the positive terminals and black to the negative ones. Attach the negative terminals first.
Try a portable charger if you have one. That will stop you from having to take your car into the yard or removing the battery from the car.
Tips & Warnings
Don't try to pop the clutch while rolling your riding lawn mower down a hill. This may work for some of the older types, but if it doesn't, you might not want to push it back up the hill again.
