How to Get Bees out of a House

Bees can get into the house by crawling into spaces less than half their size. Too bad it isn't as easy to rid yourself of the bees as it is for them to get in. They can squeeze in burrow themselves and create nests inside walls, and insecticides and professional exterminators can get expensive and messy very quickly. Before starting the process be sure you know what type of bees you are dealing, different bees can and will react differently.

Plug all entrances that carpenters bees have made into the house with putty and caulk. They will not burrow themselves out somewhere else they simply wait and die. You can tell it is a carpenter bee's nest because they always have perfectly round entrances.

Make the bees mad and then vacuum out the small, new nest. The nest must new, and the process should be done in the early evening after the bees have come home. Poke the nest with a stick while another person waits outside the opening with a vacuum. Cover the treated area with putty and paint so that the bees won't come back.

Rid your home of honey bee nests in the very early spring, when there is less honey and less bees in the nest. Pick a nice sunny day, and wait till the late afternoon when all the bees are in the hive.

Tap the walls of the house and listen for the buzz of the honey bee. You will have to cut the wall open to dust the hive and remove the remnants. Spray or dust the nest with the insecticide and wait for an hour to let all the surviving bees out of the nest. Honey bees will dig themselves out of the nest even into another area of your home.

Remove as many of the dead honey bees as you can reach. Also remove the comb and honey. Leaving the comb and honey can be disastrous as the comb can melt and leak honey that may seep through walls and ceilings.

Rent or buy a bee smoker before trying to rid your home from bees. This smoker will calm the bees making them less likely to sting you.
