How to Bag Autumn Leaves
How to Bag Autumn Leaves. There are a variety of different ways to deal with falling leaves each fall. Some people collect and save the leaves to help with gardening and others like to compost leaves. In some areas, people prefer to bag autumn leaves and have the town come and pick them up.

Things You'll Need
Gloves
Bags, usually trash bags
Rake
Rake the leaves into a decent sized pile. Keep your gloves on and your rake handy. If you have a second rake nearby it will be useful in the bagging process.
Open up a bag and set it on the ground nearby. It's easiest if you have a second person to hold the bag open for you, but you can bag autumn leaves on your own if you have to.
Scoop up a bunch of leaves using the underside of the rake. You'll need to put your hand on top of the leaves so that they don't fall off. You'll want to keep your gloves on in case the leaves are wet. If you have a second rake, use it instead of your hand.
Dump the leaves into the open bag. This may be a bit tricky if you don't have any help and the bag is empty. Once you have 1 or 2 loads of leaves in the bag, it becomes easier to put more leaves in it.
Continue to fill up the bag until it's most of the way full. Be sure to save enough room to tie the bag off.
Tips & Warnings
It's easiest to lift leaves with two rakes. This way you don't have to bend over each time you pick up a load of leaves. It should save a lot of strain on your back.
You can often find orange bags that are shaped like jack-o'-lanterns at stores. When filled with leaves, these plastic bags are a fun way to decorate your yard for Halloween.
Check with your town leaf collector, usually the department of public works, to see if you need to use a special bag for your leaves. Towns often sell blue or yellow bags for leaves to differentiate them from trash bags.
Make sure there isn't a weight limit on leaf bags in autumn. You don't want to over fill your bags and then have their collection skipped because they were too heavy.
Be careful that there aren't any sharp objects in your leaf piles because sometimes kids like to jump in them.
